'Diamonds' Singer Spotted In Cuba Amid 'R8' Release Rumors
Rihanna may be keeping fans eagerly waiting for the release of her eighth studio album, rumored to be titled, "R8," however, it appears the songstress is working on some new material as photos suggest that Rihanna is currently in Havana, Cuba to film a new music video.
The San Diego Union Tribune reports that Rihanna shocked fans when she was spotted riding in a classic, American convertible car
in Havana's Malecon shore boulevard on Friday where fans swarmed the
car in excitement, attempting to capture photos of the songstress while
her security team worked desperately to try and keep fans out of the way
of the vehicle.
Media from the state confirmed that Rihanna arrived in Havana
unannounced on Wednesday before making an appearance at La Fontana
restaurant, where she reportedly dined on authentic Cuban food,
including black beans, grilled chorizos, steak and pork chops, Telegraph
reports.
The site also notes that Rihanna and her crew drank and danced to
"classic Cuban music" provided by the restaurants in-house band.
The Cuban media also notes that Rihanna was seen recording what
appeared to be a music video in the capital's district of El Vedado and
at restaurant La Guarida while other reports suggest that Rihanna also
opted for a photoshoot with famed photographer, Annie Leibovitz.
The news comes only a few short days after sources confirmed that
Rihanna has been working alongside famed dancehall artists for her new
album, alleging that the singer wants a very different sound for her
eighth album.
BET reports that producer DJ Dre Skull leaked the news
after he learned that Rihanna was in contact with some of his close
friends to help her try and achieve a unique sound for the album, which
has already seen the likes of singles "B*tch Better Have My Money,"
"American Oxygen," and Rihanna's collaboration with Kanye West and Paul
McCartney for "FourFiveSeconds."
DJ Dre Skull dished, "I know firsthand and secondhand that she's been
reaching out to a lot of people in the dancehall world. I'm not
suggesting it's gonna be [a dancehall album] but [her people] are
excited about dancehall and to work in that sort of context."
An official release date for Rihanna's eighth studio album has not
yet been confirmed, although rumors suggest a late summer release is
probable.
